Camp Info

What?
Come to the Coast, show your worth and join the 15th Maquinna Rover Crew as we present Mardi Gras: Rocktober!

Did you know that Mardi Gras tied for first-place with Rovent as Best Moot in Canada? (If you don’t know what a Moot is, you need to Rove a bit more!) Why not come and join us and see just what this Moot thing is all about!

When?
The weekend of September 30th – October 2nd, 2011.

You’re welcome to arrive Friday after 12-noon. Early arrivals are not permitted on site as the camp insurance does NOT cover campers on site until after noon, not even to drop off gear or set up tents.

Where?
As always, Mardi Gras is being held at the beautiful and spacious Camp Byng on the sunshine coast. See the transportation page for a map and directions.

Who?
The camp is open to all registered Venturers, Rovers, Rangers, Link Members and Group Advisors.

Why?
I’m glad you asked. Come to the camp and find out.

Registration

You can download the registration and information package here. Print it out and either mail it to us or bring it to camp. Our mailing address can be found below under “Contacts” or on the registration page.

The camp fees include more fun than you can shake your axe (that’s slang for guitar — get used to it) at, plus a cool camp badge.

LEADERS: Please make sure that all members planning on attending have ALL required forms, including the new Scouts Canada Physical Fitness form or Girl Guides Canada Health form (H.1). Anyone under the age of 18 must have a completed Scouts Canada or Girl Guides Canada (SG.2) Parent/Guardian Consent Form with them, or they will not be permitted on site. We also require proof of membership via the AMS (Scouts) or iMIS (Guides) printout – for information on obtaining this, please contact your group registrar. You will not be permitted on site without this printout as per Scouts Canada / Guides Canada insurance regulations.

Awards & Prizes

As per usual, we have awards for:

  • Site decoration
  • Farthest Traveled
  • Dirty Band-Aid Award
  • Events
  • Spirit Award
  • The MG Challenge Award

We also have a TON of prizes being donated to us courtesy of various sponsors!

Rules

This is an official Scouting event – all rules, bylaws, policies and procedures are in effect and will be enforced. Please respect the rules and the staff – it will make the weekend more enjoyable for everyone.

You are required to bring:

  • A personal health form (current) for each member! (Leaders: we do not need them for registration, please keep them with you.)
  • Your AMS / iMIS registration list printout.
  • A registered advisor or leader – not just someone who’s vouching to be your advisor.
  • Food, shelter, clothing, etc, water is available onsite.
  • There is extra emphasis on decorations and costumes! We have prizes for groups who embody the camp’s theme.

You are not permitted to bring:

  • Generators
  • Ghettoblasters / stereos / speaker systems (you are permitted but if we have any noise complaints, they will be removed and auctioned-off Sunday morning)
  • Illegal drugs / alcohol – we have zero tolerance.
  • Fireworks / firecrackers / bear bangers / guns / etc.
  • Pets
  • Metal swords of any kind, blunt or sharp, pirate, ninja or other, will be confiscated and NOT returned. Leave it at home if you want to keep it.
  • Boffers constructed with anything other than a PVC core. Seriously, you’re going to hit someone with it – try it on yourself first and see just how it feels.

Other Camp Rules:

  • No fires in Byng’s recycling barrels! You will be charged the cost of a barrel if you have a fire in one! We have recently added a fire regulations page with new requirements. Be sure to read it if you plan on having a fire!
  • STAY ON THE ROAD. Even for unpacking. DO NOT drive into the camping areas. I don’t care if the trail is wide enough for your car.
  • Please obey the rules of the road – it’s one way. Do not come back out the way you came in.
  • No unnecessary driving around, not only is it dangerous as there are plenty of people walking around but it also raises dust / makes mud.
  • Respect the toilets! We have moved to a non-gender system of “Sitting” or “Standing / Hovering”. Please use the facility marked for your intended position.
Gentlemen – please stand closer, it’s not as long as you think it is. Ladies – please remain seated for the entire performance.

If you are caught breaking ANY camp rules, your ENTIRE GROUP will be subject to disciplinary action by the Mardi Gras staff. This is a non-negotiable issue.

We will be very strict in enforcing our no alcohol policy at camp – if we even suspect that someone in your group may have been drinking, the entire group will be asked to leave and an official complaint will be placed with Scouts Canada or Guides Canada. We ask that all Advisors assist us in policing the youth; it is your responsibility as a youth Advisor to ensure that they are safe and abide by the camp rules.
